The Community Guards, Micheal and Angela came to visit Threen N.S. today to talk about road safety. Our school is along a very busy road so they asked everyone to be very careful while leaving school and make sure to wait for an adult before going to their car when leaving school.
The students got some lovely gifts, a Road Safety pencil and ruler, along with a high visibility jacket.
We have started our weekly hurling training with Michael. He teaches us a mixture of skills and we also play matches to practise our skills. Each session we have to wear helmets to make sure we are safe and prevent head injuries. We listen carefully to Michael when he is explaining the rules. We help each other put on the helmets and use encouraging words during the sessions. It is great fun!
Some of our students wore odd socks to school on Friday the 5th of October. We decided to do this because we were learning about different disabilities. We wore odd socks to show that it is ok to be different. We learned that we should respect peoples differences.
There were fluffy socks, spotty socks, stripey socks, sports socks, flowery socks and socks of different colours.
Students from the Junior Room planted daffodil bulbs. Everyone worked together and really enjoyed planting the bulbs with the soil. They will have to wait until Spring to see the beautiful flowers.
On Thursday the 14th of June we all travelled to Dublin Zoo for our school tour. The day started off with a big surprise when the children found out that they would be travelling on the Rossie bus. Our first destination at the zoo was to look at all the reptiles and also a life size replica of a T-Rex. We then looked at a range of animals before we made our way to the African Plains where we had a guided tour. On our way home we stopped in Apple Green where the children had some food. It was a brilliant day.
On Tuesday the 1st of May the boys and girls soccer teams had a very successful day as they both qualified for the county finals in soccer for two teacher schools. The boys were in a group with teams from Ballagh, Loughlynn and Clooneyquinn. The boys played really well on the day and won all their games which means they have qualified for the county finals in Lecarrow.
The girls were in a group with teams from Ballagh, Loughlynn, Clooneyquinn and Keadue. The girls won 3 of their games and they lost a really tight game to Loughlynn but they had also done enough to qualify for the county finals. Well done to all the boys and girls on the great performances they all put in.
Elephant
An elephant is big and strong,
Her trunk is very very long,
Her tusks are made from ivory,
Some people call her Averie,
She has big floppy ears,
She is lovely don’t you fear.
Her feet are cushioned with soft tissues,
She does not have lots of issues,
She likes to hang out with her mother
And likes to play with the others.
She likes to eat ice-cream,

Bear
A bear is silly and might jump around,
Be very careful don’t make a sound,
He likes to play all day long,
Sometimes he sings a rhyming song.
A bear is fat and sleeps all winter,
He climbed a tree and got a splinter,
He swims in seas, rivers and lakes,
Watch out, he’s cheeky.
He might steal your cheese-cake.
On Friday the 23rd of March, the children took part in an Easter egg hunt around the school. The children were put in pairs, with older children accompanying the younger children. Each pair then went around looking for the eggs that the Easter bunny had left. The children had a great time, with every pair finding some chocolate.
On March the 14th at the Castlerea Celtic football grounds, the boys and girls soccer teams had a very successful day as they both qualified for the Roscommon finals of the Spar Schools FAI soccer competition. The boys were in a group with teams from Granlahan and Tulsk and we won both games which meant we had qualified for the county finals. The girls were also in a group with teams from Granlahan and Tulsk with the Threen girls defeating both teams to top their group. The girls then had to play the winners of the other group who were also from Tulsk National School and after a tight and tense game we came out on top and in doing so qualified for the county finals.
On Thursday the 22nd of March we headed for Leacarrow in search of further glory in the county finals. The girls were up first and we made a great start as we beat local rivals Tarmon 2-1. We then lost to Brideswell before having a great battle with Lisaniskey National School who beat us 3-1 but the score line didn’t do our girls justice on the day. Unfortunately as we had lost two games it meant we wouldn’t be going any further in the competition. The boys were next up and put in committed and strong performances against both Tisara and Corrigeenroe but unfortunately we lost both games which meant we were also out of the competition.
We are very proud of the boys and girls for their achievement in getting to the finals and they represented the school with pride and distinction. Well done everyone.
Here in Threen N.S we celebrated Seachtain Na Gaeilge by participating in a number of fun activities. A local dance teacher called to the school to teach some Irish dancing to both the pupils and the adults. The children really enjoyed the dancing lessons and some of the children who attend dancing lesson showed us some of their fantastic skills as they performed a couple of jigs and reels.
We also had jelly and ice-cream to help celebrate seachtain na Gaeilge. Some of the children along with Mary made green and gold jelly and this was accompanied with some vanilla ice-cream which helped to create the Irish tricolour. The jelly and ice-cream was delicious and all the children really enjoyed it.
Finally to complete our Seachtain na Gaeilge activities the children took part in a Tráth na gceist. Every child in the school took part with the teams consisting of a mixture of both older and younger pupils. There were four rounds of ceisteanna and two teams finished level at the end of the quiz. Well done to both teams.
