Every Wednesday morning at 9:20, staff and pupils run. We are building our stamina, in a bid to be able to run a mile by Christmas! We add one lap each week.
A big thank you to Tom for taking time out and showing us the skills of tag rugby! We really enjoyed ourselves and I’m sure we’ll get great use out of our new sports equipment!
As part of our Active School Flag we are also working with Super Troopers and Brennan’s Healthy Heroes Lunch Club.
Super Troopers is where the children are given an activity journal which includes short activities to do each night as part of their homework. They can complete the fun activities alone or with a family member. The booklets are checked each Friday.
As we all know to be a healthy person we must also watch what we eat. In Threen N.S we have a Healthy Eating Policy. We have decided also to run the Brennan’s Healthy Lunch Club. A committee member will check the lunch boxes once/twice a week and the healthiest lunch will be photographed and put on display.
Here are samples of the healthy lunches:
Welcome to our Active School Flag website.
- The Active School was launched by the Department of Education in May 2009 and is organised through Mayo education Centre.
- The purpose of the initiative is to recognise schools that strive to achieve a physically active and physically educated school community.
- It is the overall aim of Threen N.S to provide a wide and varied physical health programme for children both during allocated P.E. times and extracurricular activities.
- We want to raise awareness about the importance of enjoyment, play and keeping fit and the Active Flag initiative will encourage us to do this.
To learn more about the Active School Flag Initiative, visit their website.
Meet our ASF Committee!!
Maebh, Ciaran, Cian, James, Elisha, Killian, Megan and Zoe.
Representatives from Senior Infants to 6th class have been selected to form an ‘Active Schools Committee’ and these pupils work co-operatively with school Staff and parents.
They meet and discuss activity-based topics within the school and community.
- Below you will find our timetable of activities for Term 1. We are also working with Super Troopers and the children have active homework each night that can be done with their parents.
Monday: Brain breaks and soccer training
Tuesday: D.E.A.D (Drop Everything And Dance)
Wednesday: Run a mile
Thursday: Skipping (Leading to a skipathon in December)
Friday: No Football Friday – Playground Games
For the next few months we will be aiming to achieve the Active School Flag for the school year 2016/17.
What is the Active Flag?
• The Active Flag was launched by the Department of Education and Skills in May 2009 and organised through Mayo Education Centre.
• The purpose of the initiative is to recognise schools that strive to achieve a physically active and physically educated school community.
We will be implementing different sport activities within/outside the school and also encouraging all children to continue with their healthy lunches.
We will be starting ‘Walk a Mile with a smile’ each Wednesday morning at 9.20. The children must bring a tracksuit and runners to school every Wednesday.
You will be able to check what activities the school are taking part in on the website under the Active School Flag section.
